Buddakan

by · Comments (0)

Truly amazing menu that is sure to wow any palette. You must try the Wasabi Tuna Pizza, Wasabi Mashed Potatoes, Edamame Ravioli, and Thai Lobster Crepes. Buddakan is family style so I tasted several entrees (what else is new, right?) including the wonderful Roasted Ponzu Chicken ($22), Broiled Black Cod with mizo glaze ($23), and the Duck Breast with roasted garlic and five spice au-jus ($23).

The Zen-Gria, though light in alcohol, is a refreshing take on Sangria. Great service and stunning atmosphere. If you can’t find time for a dinner here, go to the bar for a drink and order the Wasabi Tuna Pizza – your palette will thank you.

Sister restaurant to the popular Tangerine and Metropolitan, also in Philadelphia.

Io E Tu Ristorante

Any restaurant that brings out a house appetizer puts me in a good mood. Io E Tu Ristorante serves you complimentary carrots marinated in balsamic vinegar to get diners started. Try any of the appetizers – I thoroughly enjoyed the sautéed calamari and stuffed mushrooms.

Io E Tu is a neighborhood place in South Philly with unpretentious service and ageless atmosphere.  Moderate prices.

Owners John and Cocetta Varallo.

The Back Porch Bistro

by · Comments (0)

07-10-07 Just heard that The Back Porch closed but not to fret I hear it has been replaced by a Spanish Tapas restaurant.

The comprehensive wine list alone would make this an great find in a any city. The food makes it a pleasure.

A creative menu featuring excellent pastas, fish, shell fish, and chops make for fine fare.
What To Order: Fresh fish, Bruschetta, Soups

Smoky Jon’s BBQ

by · Comments (0)

My friend Al successfully proved to me that Madison has a variety of great foodie stops when he guided us to a rib feast at Smoky Jons. They were closing when we arrived so we enjoyed our rack of juicy ribs and tasty slaw, all enjoyed in a nearby park. Memorable.

They have accumulated over 30 awards for their BBQ – a definite stop on any road trip! As good as Corky’s? You decide.
Best Dish: Brisket, Ribs
