Pei Wei finds its way onto my fork

by · Comments (0)

I am a fan of very few national sit down chain restaurants. The ones that I like are Macaroni Grill, Houstons, Mortons, and PF Changs, the later being the parent company to Pei Wei.

Pei Wei serves street style Asian food and does it efficiently and with robust flavors. Having a location a few blocks from my office helps too.

You can get brown rice with any dish (recommended) and they serve excellent unsweetened, but flavorful ice tea, and provide good quality chop sticks.

Dishes to try:

Pei Wei Spicy Chicken, Lettuce wraps, Honey Seared Shrimp, Chil Ramen, Korean BBQ Beef, mandarin orange tea, crab wonton, brown rice.

Visit their website for locations near you and hours.

Cafe Hiro is one of the standout kitchens in Orange county where you can count on an inspired meal on every visit. Be sure to check the daily specials when ordering. Service is friendly and efficient. Open for lunch and dinner.

Try one of his infused pastas. This one above features mushroom pasta with eggplant and bonita flakes, but another must try is their signature dish, Sea Urchin “Uni” Spaghetti. The Chilean Sea Bass and Beef Tongue Stew are also excellent. At Cafe Hiro shy away from the ordinary and be adventurous with your selections. You will not be disappointed.

As usual, check the website for hours and other logistics.

Maki Sushi

by · Comments (1)

If you want fresh sushi this is the place to go. If you order Omakase, which is chefs choice, the sushi chef will often show you the seafood ퟙliveퟘ prior to preparation. If you choose Omakase, tell the chef your likes and dislikes, budget, etc. It is common for the meal to end with Torro (belly of the Tuna) so plan accordingly. The menu and sushi prices are fair and you can dine well for $ 30 per person. If you choose, Omakase plan to spend $ 50 to $70 per person.
What To Order: ퟙOmakaseퟘ which means Chef’s choice

Wasa Sushi

A very popular Sushi bar and Japanese restaurant. Start you meal with some well executed appetizers such as the Negimayaki – grilled asparagus and green onions encased in grilled rib eye or the pretty good soft shell crab. The chef offers many daily specials and the dressy preparations common in most sushi bars today – dynamite rolls, crunchy roll, rainbow roll – all executed well.
What To Order: Ninja roll, rainnbow roll, seared toro with ponzu sauce, albacore tataki

Matsuhisa

I have had many amazing meals at this world famous Japanese restaurant. Not just great sushi. I love the soft shell crab roll – this crunchy, delectable treat is truly unique. In fact, just about everything on Master Chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s 20+ page menu is unique and wonderful.

His restaurant Nobu in New York, Las Vegas and more locations annually are also consistently on many top ten restaurant lists.
Best Dish: There are so many delicacies – try anything and I am sure you will be pleased.
