Pete’s Mexican Food

by · Comments (0)

An institution in Huntington Beach, Pete’s serves their take on mexican food. Get the chicken or ground beef taco – tasty ingredients, shells crisped on the grill. The carne asada burrito includes avocado, lettuce and tomato.

L’Entrecote de Paris

If you are craving for the traditional steak entrecote with au pavore skip this place. The prices are high ($ 8 sodas), portions small, and service poor.

Fouguet’s

by · Comments (0)

If you find yourself in Paris in August sometimes you have limited, elegant dining opportunities. This is what led us to Fouget for an overpriced, forgettable meal. Luckily the service and the company were wonderful and the evening didn’t suffer from the food nor the prices (Kir Royal 20 Euro Salade Galanga 26 Euro).

*Chateau Sirene 2002 Bordeaux at $ 75 a bottle was wonderful

Chicken club was dry and tasteless. Entrecrote and frites were average as was the dessert crepes. Nice relaxing atmosphere and a comfortable patio.

Spaghettini Italian Grill

by · Comments (0)

I have to eat my words – in years past I used to dread going to Spaghettini’s – slow service, high prices and mediocre food. But times have changed, or maybe I have. My recent experiences at Spaghettini were fantastic – outstanding and speedy service, and wonderful dishes all around.

Pasta, Brick Oven Pizza, Chops and Chicken, Seafood
What To Order: Orecchietta pasta with broccoli rabe ($24) – just wonderful, Parmesan Crusted Sea bass is a perfectly cooked filet in a thin Parmesan crust topped with lemon butter sauce, served with garlic-mashed potatoes ($27)

Chimayo Grill

by · Comments (0)

Chimayo started as a great idea, with David Whilhelm as executive chef, they served great Southwest cuisine. And though the food can be quite good, now it seems overpriced, and has inconsistent service.

Nonetheless, their seared Ahi tuna rolls, and grilled fish plates are excellent. They have a good wine list, a large selection of tequila, and it is conveniently located around the corner from the “Apple Store”!

Rare Ahi, Avocado and Tortilla Rolls with Cilantro-Chile Dipping Sauce ($13), Chimayo Locally Famous ‘Grilled Caesar’ with Chile Roasted Pumpkinseed with chicken ($12), Grilled Swordfish Steak with Green Chile Pesto and Mango Salsa ($22)
Best Dish: Seared Ahi Tuna Rolls

The Gumbo Pot

by · Comments (0)

For over a dozen years, the Gumbo Pot has continued to be a dependable source of tasty and pleasing Cajun food. Order at the counter, wait for your number and then grab a seat at one of the outdoor tables in Farmers Market. Try the seafood gumbo, jambalaya, shrimp or oyster po-boy, drunken shrimp, salad with pecan dressing, and New Orleans beignets. They also serve oysters on the half shell, muffulettas, catfish and alligator.

Farmer’s market is a treat in itself, with independent operators offering hundreds of items ranging from BBQ, Deli, Produce, Nuts, Hot Sauce, Ice Cream, Donuts, and many more edible and non-edible treats. LA favorites include Bob’s Donuts, Dupar’s, and Bennett’s Ice Cream. Visit http://www.farmersmarketla.com/ for more info.

Next door to Farmers Market is the newly opened “The Groves”, a shopping and entertainment Mecca worthy of a visit. Check out the gigantic Apple Store.

Parking tip: Park in the validated lot at Farmers Market, enjoy dinner at the Gumbo Pot, then stroll in “The Groves”.
